  1. Hello Doug,
Marcie here. I noticed that you use a 3D program called room styler. Have you tried Homebyme? It’s one that I use. I think it is easy but that may be because I am used to it.
Now that we are following each other perhaps we should say hello some day. I’m in California. I noticed that you are in Indi

    1. Hi Marcie! I’ve not tried other 3D programs yet. I may get around to it. (I’ve got the comments set to be moderated, just to keep out the spam.) Thanks for saying hi!

      1. Christopher Lowell introduced uplighting in corners and plants in the rooms. I liked it for a bit but now I have uplights stored and unused in my cabinets asking to be used somewhere.

        1. Hi Marcie,

I do use uplights in corners! One of my favorite places is in a dining room to get some background light on the walls. Plants or vases help conceal the light source. Low lumen bulbs or dimmers create a gentle background. When company comes over, you flip those babies on and the dining room suddenly looks glamorous!

  2. Hi Doug,

I am struggling with furniture layout in my lounge room. One wall has windows, other wall has fire place, opposite fire place is a wall shelving unit last side is open entrance into sunken dining room. What is the best sofa seating arrangement?

    1. If I’m following your description correctly, I’d probably float the couch in front of the shelving unit facing the fireplace. Then you get to view the window on one side and you won’t block the entrance to the dining room on the other. I’d probably put a pair of armchairs on the fireplace wall, one on either side. You could also have a look at my video on arranging for a TV and a fireplace. If none of that is helping, you might post some pictures the discussion board at Houzz.com. I try to get on their to comment on questions as well. Best of luck!
